Welcome to Victoria!
New
time - Sunday 18.00 Skandinavisk time!
My radiotime in
northamerica is 8 am Sunday morning!
Welcome to Victoria, British.Columbia. Canada, Far, far away from Sweden….
Victoria is situated on the West Coast of southern Canada and has a climate we can only dream about. Many Scandinavians have, through the years, decided to make this city their home.
That is what we will talk about…. The emigrating Scandinavians brought their culture with them, but it is difficult to keep the contact between the old country and Canada. That is why a Swede, who also lives in Victoria, has started a non-profit radio show, where only Nordic languages are spoken and where Nordic poetry, interviews, greeting between countries are offered as well as Nordic music - dance music, songs, and classical music.
The radio program is sent from University of Victoria and can be heard all over the world via Internet. To be able to listen to it, you must first download Real Player … and to get to the radio, just click on the title above. And then you get into LISTEN IN REALAUDIO, and there you are!
At the present time, Scandinavian Radio in Victoria is broadcasting only one hour a week... My radiotime in northamerica is 8 am Sunday morning, and in Nordic countries you can listen to my radioshow at 5 PM Sunday evening. (5 PM Sundays is 17.00 in Nordic countries). We hope however that the time will be increased, and the content will be further developed.
That is the reason for this web site… We are a small group of people in Sweden who have decided to give a hand. We are looking for like-minded others who will send CD's they can spare. And also send some money contributions. If you send money, SEK 100.00 and up, you will get a small award that is especially designed for you, the sender, to add to your home page, linking this page.
The money should be sent to a Swedish "post giro konto" and the sender should give his name, city and e-mail address, and the award will arrive by e-mail … and there will also be a greeting on the Scandinavian Radio in Victoria.
I promise you, it is a fantastic experience to hear one's own name being mentioned on the radio from the other side of the earth, 9 hours after our own time! With Internet, it takes no time at all!
Below you will find a fact window about how it all will work!
This is the way it works!
To send a CD, first contact Teddy by sending him an e-mail or a letter to:
Teddy Aberg
Box 30207
Saanich Centre Postal Outlet
Victoria BC V8X6EI
CanadaIn your message to Teddy, you may also include greetings to family and friends on that side of the world, or why not to listeners in Sweden! Include also music or poetry suggestions or perhaps one of your own stories. Everything will be gratefully received, although we can not promise to use all suggestions.
To send money
You can send a cheque (dollars) to Teddy's address above which will be acknowledged by Teddy Aberg. In the letter, ask to get confirmation of the contribution by e-mail. Please send a copy of this confirmation to us by e-mail. Then we will be in contact, and you will be included on the page of sponsors! If you think sending a checque is too troublesome, you can instead send money (SEK) to bankkonto nr: 8030-9, 73 053 700-8 Gunilla Wolde. Be sure to include your name, e-mail address, and home page address, so we know who you are and are able to link you if you contribute SEK 100.00 or more!
ALWAYS give your name, city and e-mail address. If you are interested in taking part in an interview, include also your telephone number and your country number (Sweden 46, Canada 1 for example). This is important, as we want to give you an award for your homepage, to link you to our page of sponsors!
What you will receive!
Besides the special gift/award for your home page, you will also have the advantage of being linked to this page as a sponsor of "Cultural exchange with Scandinavians in Canada." Most likely, you will also be able to get in touch with new friends on the other side of the Atlantic - Scandinavians and others! And as mentioned above, you will also get a "thank you" via radio that can be heard all over the globe via Internet.
Download Real Player!
If you don't already have it, there is a free version.
You are also invited to be part of a radio show newsletter. For the newsletter, please add your name here!
In the newsletter you will find out, quickly and easily, if there are any changes in the radio show - changed or increased hours for example. You can also send me message by e-mail, and receive personal assistance regarding the radio show.Responsible for this page am I: Gunilla Wolde, and if you send greetings via e-mail, I will redirect them to Teddy.
A final word! I hope that you will become part of the group of sponsors formed around the Scandinavian Radio in Victoria, and that you will be able to help out with gifts and ideas that can enrich the contacts between the countries and keep the cultural heritage alive!
